Healing/prayers request
My friend Mike and his family are trying to move back to his native UK to give them a better life. Each time they claw 1 step forward, the universe kicks them 3 steps back. Today, Mike was rushed to hospital with chest pains, He has a clogged artery and will be undergoing an angioplasty on Monday. Any prayers for healing, recovery and just plain old better luck would be greatly appreciated.

Hello. I figured since I joined I should at least introduce myself. I live in Scotland (middle of nowhere to be exact) and have been trying to study on my own for a couple of years. I had a look at this community, and after looking at others, this one looked like one that wasn't going to attack me because I'm not a Wiccan, not in a Coven, and can't do a huge amount in the way of practical stuff.

I still live with my parents, and though they're not overly religious themselves, they don't really agree with my beliefs. So, to respect the fact that it is their house, and I don't want to rub it in their faces, at the moment I stick to divination and meditation. I am trying to learn as much as I can before I move out into my own place with my other half, so I at least know the theory behind the practice, but living in the middle of nowhere makes it difficult to find anything.

I was hoping to ask more experienced practitioners for advice on the type of books I should look out for, and the ones to really avoid. I tried this in another group last year, and it started a row so big the moderater had to step in, and then told me in no uncertain terms that it was a stupid question to ask, and I should know better.

Sorry, went off on a little rant for a minute.

Anyway, I hope you guys can help me, it definately looks like there is a wide selection of religions here, so you're obviously tolerant of one another, which is hard to find in an online discussion group. But thank you for reading my massive post!

It's nice to meet you all.

mri results and a huge thank you
I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who responded with love and concern, who took the time to care and send help when I requested it.

I also wanted to let you know that my mri came back clean today, no tumors. We still have things to rule out, but at least the really bad is out of the way.

I appreciate the outpooring of support, and the wonderful suggestions. I'm sure it will be only a short time now for me to visualize my aura again, with the worst of the stress out of the way. :)

Question about animals, or specifically Owls...
I read this community all the time, hardly ever post. Have kind of a random, unformed question, thought I'd throw it out there.

asking for healing energy, please
Hi there,

I don't post often, but I am going thru a really rough time right now, and would like to request healing energy. I have been very ill lately, am getting the results of my mri tomorrow, and will be going thru some more medical procedures throughout the remainder of the month. It seems that daily I am having things happen one by one that devastate me and I am not reacting well or properly.

My pride usually gets in the way, but I am losing strength and really need some help. If anyone can offer strength or healing energy, if you could please send it my way, I'd be forever grateful.

<3 and light,

x-posted, sorry..I need all the help I can get--I can no longer even visualize my own aura

Would like Your Opinions on Thomas Dale Cowan/ book by him
Author of Shamanism As a Spiritual Practice for Daily Life.

Does he have a good rep with you?

Does he know what he's talking about?

Is this book more basic baby steps, or is it suitable as a Yule gift for an experienced practitioner who'd like to add to their repertoire of spiritual disciplines and healing techniques?

Sotheby's auctions ancient Mesopotamian sculpture for $57 million
article LINK

Wed Dec 5, 2007 5:11pm EST

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Sotheby's auctioned a tiny, ancient Mesopotamian sculpture for $57 million on Wednesday, a record sum for any sculpture or antiquity sold at auction.

The Guennol Lioness is a 3.25-inch (8.3-cm) tall white limestone figure created 5,000 years ago in Mesopotamia -- the cradle of civilization between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers mostly in modern Iraq and Iran. The sculpture is considered one of the last known masterworks from its era in private hands, the auction house said.

The buyer's identity was not revealed.

The price of $57.16 million topped the previous record of $29.16 million for a sculpture sold at auction that was held by Picasso's "Tete de femme (Dora Maar)" which went for $29.16 million in November, Sotheby's said.

The previous record for an antiquity was $28.6 million for a 2,000-year-old Roman bronze sold in June.

The Guennol Lioness was put up for sale by a trust established by the collectors Alastair Bradley Martin and his wife Edith, who acquired the piece in 1948. The proceeds were to benefit a charitable trust, Sotheby's said.

"The successful bidder ... will have the distinction of owning one of the oldest, rarest and most beautiful works of art from the ancient world," Richard Keresey, head of Sotheby's antiquities department, said in a news release ahead of the auction.

early winters night dream
i had a very .. interesting dream last night. Some will know what im talking about, others will think im nuts. lol

A group of us were at the UU in the Falls going to play the piano. Jen said she had permission from Mary, the lady who in my dream was in charge of such things. We were about to play around when a light went on and we were startled by some lady that wasnt supposed to be there. We hid just incase she might see us. when she turned off the light and went back to bed, we thought all was well until about 3 minutes later she caught us there. There had been a miscommunication between her and mary and Jen. somehow the dates of our piano practice got mixed up with whatever the lady was doing. This lady started calling us murderers and liars, so i started yelling back. Im not sure what i was saying or anything. but we ended up going on a tour of the UU/ haunted building. It was painted in goldleaf and tiled so beautifully. after that we ended up going outside and somehow we were all naked. I had a red jeweled collar on that went from my clavicle all the way up my neck, as well as a red jeweled loin covering thing.  Its then that the breeze picked up and brought with it the rain. At first it was a light drizzle, gathering itself for an outright downpour for the rest of my dream. All i was doing that night was wandering and dancing around the gardens of the UU, which looked like a cross between a midevel fair and an english garden.  It poured all night long, and i was loving it. Eventually, as dawn came the rains subsided and finally stopped. I came out of the garden and was going to walk down the street to somewhere in the Falls, and out of the corner of my eye saw one of my best friends and soulmates, Aaron. He had seen me as well and we rushed into each others arms and he swung me around. He was dressed in white.. like an angel...  I told him i just had one of the best nights of my life, and now i was looking for a guy ive been seeing. so we could go back home. He smiled at me and my dream faded into cold blackness. thats when i woke up.

I miss them SO much.. my friends back home.

It has been raining here, in a place with little rain during the year. It makes me happy. Water cleanses us and grounds us, washes away all the pent up junk we carry. The Mountains are blanketed in clouds which usually means snow up there. It's been sprinkling down here in the valley for 2 days now, nearly all through the night and most of the day. I simply adore it. i am content today.

I`m surrounded by idiots
I have come to despise the new neighbour that moved in realier this year. It started off with her using our rubbish bin, despite the fact the words "FLAT ONE" are painted in 1-foot-high-letters on it, then she couldn`t be arsed to take it out to be emptied, just let it sit there full of rotting refuse, then would fill it up again after i`sd taken it out to be emptied. Then came sitting in the tiny garden at the front of the house that`s right outside our living room window.
Last night at rougly 10 pm, because I`d missed doing a Lughnassa ritual to welcome in Autumn/Harvest time on the 2nd of August as my Wife was taken into hospital unexpectedly. I lit a small fire in our garden and sat down cross legged to fire-gaze.
The idiot, reeking of drink waddled, uninvited into our patch of garden, stepping on the offering-loaf and kicking over the goblet of mead and shouted.
"Hi, what`re you doing!?"..yes she`s the kind of moron whose questions come with exclamation marks.
"Well, until you trod on the offerings to my goddesses and gods and interrupted me, I WAS trying to meditate."

"Wow, I do that!.Have you read the Da Vinci Code!?"

"Actually I`d really just like some time alone for my ritual."

"Can I join in!?"

some people do not deserve to exist.

Writer's Block: By Any Other Name
If you could rename yourself in real life, what would you choose, and why?

Funny you should ask, since I just went on about this particular thing. First, let me explain why I hate my christened name. I figured out a while back that if "Lisa" is a diminution of Elizabeth, meaning "god's gift" and "Marie" is a variant of "Mary" or "Mara" which means "bitter" then my name means "god's bitter gift." Not something I care to be.

I have been given the name "Lily" by people that I love, even the spelling. I wasn't sure for a while, until my favorite crone said, "While you're deciding on how you are going to spell your name, I've decided to spell it L-I-L-Y because it's a particularly lovely flower and I feel that you are a particularly lovely person." Yeah, made me squishy. This, by the way is from the same person who filked "Jesus loves me" to "Grandma loves me." I like the filk much better and plan to use it, if there are children in our universe. (no, I do not have anything to tell anyone. My Ma is the holdout on the information, not me. LOL)

So yes, the offical name that I would take and will be changing to by the end of this year is "Lillian Von Schtupp Magnuson." No surprise, I am named after characters from a couple of the family's favorite movies.

OK, now you...
